By the time President-elect Barack Obama is inaugurated, Israel will have all of its troops out of the Gaza Strip, but only if Hamas militants hold their fire, Israeli officials said Monday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Perspective: Does this come to any surprise to you? It really shouldn't. We all know that we'll have a new President come January 20th, a President who has yet to show true support for Israel and their actions.
By removing all troops from Gaza Israel is sending a message to the outgoing President Bush. "Thanks. You supported us through all of our actions during your two terms. And for that we are grateful"
While at the same time, they are telling Mr. Obama this, "Mr.Obama we don't know if your going to support us. Even though you've promised to nuke anyone who uses a nuclear weapon against us, will you really do that? Will you support us when we decide to attack Iran? "
These are just a few things that Israel is asking itself. I for one am glad that the conflict is over. This will allow the government of Gaza to asses their loses and the damage done to their nation. As I mentioned earlier in the week, Gaza will never be the same. According to certain estimates that I've read and have received, it could take more than 5 years to rebuild Gaza. Hamas is no longer this "threatening" power that it was prior to the invasion. Israel has achieved their goals. For the better and the worse.
